The night kicked off with the photography workshop by COOPH photographer Leo Rosas, who is know for his action sports photography. As one of the judges for the Red Bull Illume competition and Red Bull photography trainer, you can count on him being able to tell you something interesting. Subjects such as the fundamentals of sports photography, postproduction purposes, exposure and promotion of your work and the importance of personal projects were discussed.

While the workshop was taking place, people started to come in to catch up with each other and have a look at all the new gear that was being presented. Presenting partner Ripstar welcomed everyone with their shining Airstream trailer and the chance to win a freeride trip with them to Livigno, Italy.

After a little introduction movie shot with the help of Dutch TV host, Sander Jansen and surprise guest Mike Douglas, the movies started off with “Snowman” from Switchback Entertainment. While iF3 is known for the big amount of action sports movies, “Snowman” offered a nice mix up in the program as well as a very interesting story to see.

This documentary was followed up by some big line action from the Valdex segment for the latest Warren Miller movie – “Chasing Shadows”. To not get too serious, “Between” from Shades of Winter closed off the first movie block with some self mockery and shots that make you hungry for winter and riding with your friends.

During the break, people caught up with each other, picked up their prizes from the online contest of K2 and Mons Royale and had the chance to win an ABS Airbag. Just before the second movie block started, it was time to announce the winner of the Ripstar trip. Everyone who signed up got a number and with the help of the audience to choose a random number, Bas Leijh went home with a big grin on his face.

But what is an iF3 festival without a shot ski? Luckily the guys of Legs of Steel were on site to show the Dutch crowd how it was done and with the JP tribute shot skiboot glasses that were flown in straight out of Montreal, the celebration of winner Bas Leijh for the trip with Ripstar was done properly.

The second half of the evening kicked of with Sweetgrass’s new documentairy “Jumbo Wild”. Fresh from the cutting room only two days earlier, it gave the viewers insight in to what’s been going on and might happen in the near future in the Jumbo valley. After this intense and more nature than ski orientated documentary, it was time for some real ski action and what’s better for this than the new Legs of Steel movie “Passenger”, introduced by the crew itself? To push the stoke to an even higher level, the crew got to hand out ski passes from five different resorts in Switzerland to random lucky attendees as well as gear from O’Neill and Arc’teryx.

The vibe in the center hall kept going strong and after the lights went out when TGR’s new flick “Paradise Waits” finished, celebrations were moved to the center of Amsterdam. All in all, iF3 Amsterdam kicked off the winter season and with the cold weather coming in right that weekend, we can’t wait for snow crackling under our feet again!
